I Made Macarons From Scratch

Valentines Day can sometimes be a challenge. Whether you are single, dating or married just remember it is a day for love. I have spent many a valentines as a single woman, however this particular Valentines Day I was lucky enough to have a wonderful man to share it with! His name is Schuyler and he is absolutely wonderful. Although, like most men, he can be almost impossible to shop for. I am always at a loss as to what I should get Sky for holidays so this year I took to youtube for inspiration. I came across a Bethany Mota video that had some fun cooking related ideas. I recently took a trip to Paris and so I was inspired to try out the macaron recipe she demonstrated. I won't type out the recipe here, instead I'll post the video so you can go watch the tutorial yourself! It is the first recipe she makes.

All in all this recipe worked so well! I was a little skeptical because Macarons are notoriously difficult to bake. They can be very finicky - apparently even things like dust or the moisture in the air can throw off the whole recipe. It is quite complex and the almond flour is super expensive - $12 for a small bag! Keep that in mind before attempting this recipe.

The only thing that I wasn't happy with was the filling. It came out much more runny and apparently green was not a great color choice, haha. I would recommend cooking the egg yolks a little past a "pudding consistency" like Bethany recommends. I would say wait for it to thicken more.

All in all a success! Not bad for my first really ambitious cooking adventure.
